Frequently Asked Questions
At BJJ Sportswear, we understand that quality and fit matter when it comes to your wrestling gear. Here are the answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about our custom wrestling shorts and custom fight shorts:
General
A rash guard is a close-fitting athletic top made from stretchy, quick-drying synthetics (typically polyester/nylon with spandex) used to protect skin, manage moisture, and provide comfort in grappling, water sports, and fitness activities.
High-quality polyester or nylon blends with spandex/elastane provide durability, stretch, moisture-wicking, and can achieve high UPF protection; tightly woven, heavier synthetics typically block more UV than natural fibers.
UPF measures how much UV radiation a fabric blocks; UPF50+ allows ≤2% UV to pass (about 98% blocked) and is the highest common rating for sun-protective apparel.
UPF garments generally retain UV protection when wet, though salt/chlorine can degrade fibers over time, so proper washing is recommended.
Design & Customization
Full-sublimation allows vibrant, fade-resistant all-over designs, logos, names, and team branding on long sleeve, short sleeve, or sleeveless styles, in compression or relaxed fits.
Many makers offer both single-piece orders and wholesale/bulk programs; minimums vary by vendor, so check the specific supplier’s policy.
With full-sublimation, all-over prints (including sleeves) are typically possible; some screen/heat-print services restrict sleeve printing, so verify with the chosen production method.
Fit & Sizing
It should be snug/skin-tight without restricting movement; compression styles support muscles, while slightly looser cuts add breathability depending on sport and preference.
Measure chest, waist, and hips, compare to the brand’s size chart, and consider sleeve length and collar style; if between sizes, some guides suggest sizing up for comfort.
BJJ & Competition Compliance
Yes, the IBJJF requires a tight, elastic shirt long enough to cover to the shorts’ waistband for no-gi competition
IBJJF allows black, white, or black/white with at least 10% of the athlete’s rank color (or fully the rank color); exact rules are published on the IBJJF uniform page and guidance articles summarizing them.
Event pages can specify additional requirements (e.g., having both predominantly white and predominantly black rash guards for certain rounds in black belt divisions), so always check the specific event’s page.
For IBJJF, women must wear a rash guard under the gi; men are not allowed to wear them under the gi in gi divisions, while rash guards are required in no-gi divisions.
Ordering & Turnaround
Custom production often takes about 6–8 weeks depending on design approval and queue; timelines vary by supplier and order size.
Many custom manufacturers ship worldwide, including to the USA; check each vendor’s shipping policy and lead times for your destination.
