About BJJ Sportswear

We are a BJJ publication and custom gear brand built for the grappling community — by people who are genuinely obsessed with the sport.

BJJ Sportswear was founded with a straightforward mission: create the most useful, honest, and well-researched content about Brazilian jiu-jitsu on the internet, and build gear that grapplers actually want to wear.

We are not a corporation. We are a small team of BJJ enthusiasts, researchers, and gear specialists who spend a disproportionate amount of time watching competition footage, studying technique breakdowns, tracking prize money structures, and talking to people inside the community.

What We Cover

Our editorial content spans every corner of the sport:

  • Technique guides — from fundamental positions to advanced concepts
  • Belt system and progression — honest timelines and what each rank actually requires
  • Fighter profiles and competitive news — the athletes shaping the sport right now
  • Gear and equipment — what works, what doesn’t, and what to buy at every budget
  • Academy guides — helping grapplers find quality training wherever they are
  • The business of BJJ — competition earnings, career paths, and the economics of the sport

Every guide we publish is researched against primary sources — official ADCC and IBJJF prize structures, verified athlete data, and input from practitioners with real mat time. When we cite numbers, we link to where those numbers come from.

Our Editorial Standards

We follow a simple rule: we only publish something if we would be comfortable showing it to a black belt and a complete beginner at the same time.

That means:

  • No inflated claims or clickbait takeaways
  • No prize money figures pulled from nowhere — we verify against official sources
  • No technique advice that contradicts what respected coaches actually teach
  • Every article is reviewed before publishing and updated when information changes
  • We add a “Last reviewed” date to every guide so you know the content is current

We are fans of this sport who take accuracy seriously. If we get something wrong — and occasionally we will — we want to know. Our contact page is always open.

The Gear Side

Alongside our editorial content, BJJ Sportswear designs and supplies custom BJJ gear — gis, rash guards, spats, MMA shorts, and more — for individual athletes, academies, and teams.

We got into gear because we kept hearing the same frustration from grapplers: custom team gear was either prohibitively expensive, low quality, or both. We set out to fix that.

Our gear is built for the mat, not just for looks. Every product goes through quality review before it leaves production, and we work directly with academies to make sure the fit, fabric, and durability meet the demands of regular training.

Why Trust Us

We know that “trust us” is easy to say and hard to earn. Here is what we actually do to deserve it:

We cite our sources. Every statistic, prize figure, and data point in our articles links to the original source — ADCC’s official prize structures, IBJJF competition information, verified athlete interviews, and established BJJ media.

We update our content. BJJ is a living sport. Prize money changes, rule sets evolve, and belt requirements get updated. We maintain a review schedule for our most important guides and update them when the sport changes.

We work with the community. Our content is shaped by feedback from grapplers, coaches, and gym owners who read our guides and tell us when something is off. We take that seriously.

We are transparent about what we are. We are a BJJ media and gear brand — not a gym, not a coaching service, not a competition organization. We do not pretend to be something we are not.
