IBJJF World Championship 2026 Results

Source: IBJJF official results

The 2026 IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship — the "Mundial," and the 30th running of the sport's biggest gi event — took place June 1 in Long Beach, California. Hundreds of black belt competitors filled out the adult brackets over the week, and after a year marked by off-mat controversy across the sport, the tournament itself came down to who could out-scramble, out-pace, and out-finish everyone else on the schedule.

Below: the storylines that stood out, the full list of 2026 adult black belt champions, tournament-wide finish stats, and match-by-match bracket results for every weight class. For the rules behind those scores, see our IBJJF weight and rules breakdown.

Storylines of the Weekend

The standout performance of the week belonged to Diego "Pato" Oliveira. The AOJ light featherweight became the winningest competitor in his division's Mundial history, taking his 5th title and passing the 4-title mark held jointly by his own coach, Guilherme Mendes, and Robson Moura. Three of Pato's four wins came by submission, and he closed the final 9x0. He set his belt down on the mat afterward — a gesture read by most in attendance as a hint at retirement.

Rider Zuchi finally broke through at heavyweight after several near-misses in past years. He needed four straight wins to do it, beating division favorite Leonardo Ferreira 2x0 in the semifinal before closing out Nicholas Maglicic of Atos 4x0 in the final.

On the women's side, #8 seed Sabrina Gondim was the story: dropping down a weight class from prior Mundial runs, she leaned on takedowns and top pressure to knock out both the #1 seed, Mia Funegra, and former champion Gabrielle McComb in the final — passing the guard of both on her way to gold.

By the Numbers

Across 335 adult black belt matches (234 male, 101 female), 115 ended by submission — a 34% finish rate that held roughly even between the two divisions. Where they diverged was style: women's brackets leaned more on finishes from the bottom, while lower-limb attacks were rare on the men's side, with only 3 straight ankle locks and 4 toe holds landed across every men's weight class.

The choke from the back was the single most common finish in both divisions — 43% of male submissions and 38% of female submissions — with armbars and triangles rounding out the top three. If you're training those positions yourself, our technique library breaks down the setups and most common defenses.
