Michael Proctor holds the rank of 3rd-degree black belt under Master Marcello C. Monteiro, a De La Riva black belt and certified technical professor from the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation in Rio de Janeiro. Proctor opened the first Marcello C. Monteiro academy in Washington State in Fife, near Tacoma, in 2010.
